I had an issue with my BOA system where one of the cables became kinked, looks like it was not originally installed properly. It still worked, but the cable lining was coming off, and also I was wondering if it was going to break
So, I contacted BOA, and they have a life time guarantee, they shipped out the replacement IP1 the same day, their customer svc. is top notch BTW
The spare parts arrived with everything I needed, new dial, cable, and a super small torx tool for the dial removal.
SO, what really surprised me was, how amazingly simple installing this is, I got home thinking this was going to be a night mare, probably because I did not fully understand how it worked. Once I had this apart, it all made sense. It was literally a three to five minute job, I'm not kidding.

This system rocks, I have the BOA on my Five Ten Kestrels, now I wish I needed a new pair of road shoes!!

Never had a problem replacing boas - just don't like how some of the loose feathers float around and get stuck in your nose...

That's why I prefer the featherless version.

LSD - it's just not as sexy to slide that through your legs - and we know Gonzo is nothing, but sexy ; )

Feather boa all the way!

Right, Gonz?

Glad to hear you had a good experience with replacing the BOA system. My S-Works road shoes (the 4th generation model) needed some new dials last year and I ordered the replacement kit directly from them. Only cost around $20 and the instructions were fantastic but it didn't work for me. Tying the knots was really tricky but I eventually got it all back together correctly. The problem I have is that the plastic body with the notches is stitched into the upper and those have basically rounded off over time. I can tighten the dials but foot can pull out when out of the saddle. Basically the shoes are junk now. Very unfortunate because they were the most comfortable shoes I've owned and the newer S-Works models have a different last that doesn't work for me. The tongue is far too thin and cuts into the top of my foot.

How much better are BOAs than regular old laces? Serious question. I am sure they are faster to put on and adjust, but after that, what do they offer? Are they easy to tighten and loosen while riding? Do they stop the feeling I see with many straps of them loosening as I ride? Do they stop the feeling of a hard, almost wooden block sitting on the bones of my foot when I pull up hard, something I have felt from every strapped shoe I've ridden?

I pulled the straps off my shoes and put in 7 holes with grommets on each side, used thick laces that slip very little and have foot comfort I haven't seen in 25 years. (Maybe ever - back then my feet were far more tolerant of less than perfect fit, shoe choices were more limited and I didn't work so hard to find the perfect fit since I didn't have to.) Starting the laces fairly tight at the front and going looser as I go up, my toes see room I have never felt with straps and the tendency to slide forward as I stand no longer happens. It's been a huge (and delightful) eye-opener.

I look at the BOA system and wonder how long it would be before I damaged them just being clumsy.

I think the main difference PMooney is, adjustability, and durability, same comfort as laces, adjustability on the fly. No stretching like on straps and laces
I wondered myself, had one that must have been mis-installed at the factory, became kinked, the nylon coating came off, and I wondered how long it would be before it snapped, never happened. Watched a video of a guy pulling a car with the BOA Cables, that convinced me it would prolly never break. Lifetime guarantee which is good, they sent me the replacement, free of charge.
As six said, I wonder how long before the plastic wears down, but with the IP1 system, the entire dial assembly is replaced, so maybe that solves that problem.

I had the "lace" break on my 9 year old BOA's last year. Free replacement from them, no questions asked (even sent me two so my dials would match since the color had changed).

Great customer service and were pretty simple to replace.

Been awhile since I wore old-school laced shoes, but as Gonzo noted, the biggest advantage is adjustabiliy while retaining more of a traditional "laced" feel. Even pressure across the foot, but I can tighten or loosen on the bike as I choose.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

I just ordered another set of replacement dials for the S-Works shoes. It's very, very possible that user error caused the new dials that I installed last year to not work correctly. Out of the 4 dials installed, only one works right and doesn't pull open. In other words, I probably messed up. In order to confirm that, I'm going to try doing the process again completely from scratch. Figure it's only $20 including shipping so no big loss if it doesn't work.

It's an awesome system that ratchet buckles and velcro straps simply can't beat.

I was checking out some new helmets, with......you guessed it, a BOA system. The system is really versatile, with many applications
