What's with those bars?! The bike business strikes again and comes up with a solution looking for a problem.

Funny, I'd hadn't thought about the Scott bars in years and yesterday VeloNews had an article on Graham Watson's new book. One of the photos is a view of Lemond from directly in front showing off those bars in full.

(That article is good and the accompanying photos excellent.)

Couple guys I know pulled this Frankenbar together a few years ago.....note that the aero bars are actually clamped to the lower section of the Scott Drop-ins. A nice, but subtle touch,

About the time that Drop-ins came out (and there were all those add-on competitors like the Breakaway Bar, I took a pair of Onza L-Bend bar ends and put them on the bottom of my drop bars so they came inside and then angle forward. Worked great....damn fast position on a road bike. Scott Rakes were close....

Dunno about that new Canyon bar. I applaud the attempt, but the lack of adjustibility, and no option to order the "right" size for your bike, leaves me out. I would need a longer stem than what their "stock" size is and that is not an option.

I really like it - so many more mounting spots for all the electronic crap people want on their bikes these days...

Wonder how much that Frankenbar weighs. 3-4 pounds?

Back when I was racing juniors, I tried riding with my Scott aerobars attached to the Drop-Ins just like on the Frankenbar. I recall Ekimov using this position. It's crazy low, almost as low as Boardman would get but talk about dangerous!!! If you needed to shift or brake, you not only had to quickly get your hands off the aero extensions but you had to pull them back and up as well.

I did that for about half a mile before coming to the conclusion that set-up should be called the Widow Maker.

I think the transverse bar is only part of a suspension system, not intended for hands. As a suspension system, I still think it looks clever

I got back to my steering assembly concept. The stem mast could definitely have some sort of shock-absorbing system.

What do you guys think? Scroll down to the assembly overview/instructions. https://www.behance.net/gallery/36767011/Rael-Concept-Bike-V5

...

You don't want light if you are going to be moving cattle.
