Just sold my wife's road bike on eBay and was blown away at how much the cost for shipping has skyrocketed. As of recent as two years ago I was shipping my bikes up and down the West Coast for well under $100 and now it appears that cost is nearing $300. Am I missing something? I read that shippers reduced the length of the box allowable for the lower price, but is there something else that I am not aware of? Planning on selling a couple of my bikes, but I may be forced to sell local.

Yeah, I know. Can't figure it out.
Maybe because I'm out in the sticks...

Tried FedEx and UPS.
DHL shows a little better prices online.

So $300 is a lot for shipping bikes? We think little of paying $1000 for training bikes and God knows what one of Jan Heine's planing bikes would go for.
Bikes, trains and ships, three of the most efficient forms of transportation of goods and people man has ever come up with. (Sorry, Jan. Not planes.)

Does Jan Heine even acknowledge the existence of aeroplanes? He lives pretty far in the past. Just sayin'

+2 on Bike Flights.
Freight/ shipping via UPS/ FedEx/ USPS jumped a ton this last year.
Google UPS or FedEx discount codes... I've found some that cut the charges quite a bit over paying full price.

Selling and shipping bikes is sacrilegious.
And then you have the guts to complain when they make you pay.

Have you checked the League of American Bicyclists? https://www.bikeleague.org/content/benefits
