Noticed that there was some discussion down in the MTB forum re: lubes, but since most of us probably never scroll down that far, I thought I’d start a thread up here. |

FWIW, i’m changing over to Silca’s Super Secret Drip Wax.
I had been a R&R Gold fan, but it did not fare well on dry dusty gravel. Like less than 50 miles. Was great on the road, though.
Then I used Muc Off Ceramic Dry Lube, which I thought was great….felt smooth and fast when clean. I would finish a gravel ride, quickly hose off the bike and reapply as needed. But the gunk build up was ridiculous, especially on the jockey wheels.
So trying Silcaa now….have converted my three main bikes (road, gravel and trainer). You have to completely strip your chain and components down to bare metal, first though.
But it is a drip wax, so no screwing around with crockpots and immersing your chain into wax. Only have one ride in so far on the road bike, but I like it. Multiple trainer rides and the drivetrain is still very clean.
More updates to follow if I ever get back on my bike…. |

Curious. My way into this place is through “active topics”. Never any scrolling. The lube thread in MTB forum showed like any others, up top when it has latest entry. |

| Oh man after all these years. The only time I ever go to main forum is when I want to start a new topic in a particular forum. Active topics I right on top banner. Super efficient way to look at what’s new. I also use “my topics “ if I want to find an old post. “Unread if you want to check if you missed anything. This place may not have a lot of traffic but it was set up with some good organizational features. |

The problem I have with chain lubes is I have so many bottles on my workbench it looks like the spice cabinet in the kitchen! I'm too cheap to throw all of them out even if I did find the Lost Ark of lube.
That said, I've been close to scrounging around for a used crock pot and wax again but the Silca looks interesting. CK, get a buddy to ride your bike for us and bring back a report 'k?  |

I still just have the three dollar 3 in 1 Canadian Tire chain oil. Sacrilege, I know. Brought the skis in for sharpening on Friday and noticed an advert in shop for WD40 chain lube. They also have special elixirs for dry/dusty and wet conditions. Seem to be getting good reviews so may try them out. Yes, I am a basterd for my bikes.
Only time I've really wanted something better while riding was last summer. It was a dry/dusty ride but there were some deep stream crossings drenching bikes and riders. That back and forth did a number on chains and final dry run in to finish was pretty squeaky. |

| Chain-L is the best I've found for both longevity and how quiet the drivetrain is when using it. |

I have a stash of chain lubes also on my workbench. We probably all can't agree on one lube as it depends on riding conditions in your area. That being said the most used lube sold at my LBS is Finish Line Teflon Dry. Although I prefer Finish Line Ceramic Wet.

the great thing about the Silca stuff is that, once you have your drivetrain cleaned, you get all the benefits of waxing with the convenience of a drip-on lube. Every test I have seen says this is about the fastest lube option available, plus it significantly reduces drivetrain wear.
The downside is that it ain't cheap.....*shrug* |
