First step in the process....I reckon he'll be completely out the door come July.

Brrrrrring.....Brrrrrrring..... "Hello....who?.....I cant understand you...Just a second"

"Hey Lance. Honey, can you take this call? There's a Russian guy named Oleg on the phone for you.....wanna take it?"

Just saying -- Tinkoff is crazy enough to ask him.

Nah...that's balloney. Tinkov wants someone who bends to his will. Riis wasn't that guy; nor is... The Contador situation will be interesting; he had a good rapport with Riis and is already making sounds about not being pleased.

Ya I know just having fun......But riding for Tinkoff cant be fun. Unless you win every single race. Without Bjarne (or someone else) as a buffer Berto wont last too long me thinks

yup, OC, Riis and Contador are pretty tight, I could see AC splitting, he won't put up with the crap

While it likely sucks short-term for Riis, he is really in a good spot. Sold the team for $6M and got rid of the headaches of searching for sponsors, etc.

He'll be gone by July....and in the meantime, if the Danish fed suspends him (definite possibility) it will fly lower on the radar screen than if he was still running Tinkoff - Saxo.

Once officially relieved of his duties, another team will hire him in a heartbeat.

I thought this was a good read and maybe Tinkov has a point...

http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/tinkov-and-riis-the-anatomy-of-a-power-struggle

Stories of the Dane growing more and more distant from his riders, of his input becoming sporadic, have nonetheless been legion for several years. One is still repeatedly, gleefully retold by members of Saxo Bank’s 2010 Tour de Suisse team: of a rider dropping back to the team car for instructions midway through one key stage, only to find that Riis’s ears were plugged with headphones, and his eyes were glued to his laptop. Spooling across the screen were not live pictures of the race but scenes from the hit American drama, The West Wing.

I had always thought of Riis a a "riders manager".  Someone that stayed plugged into the sport at a level where while still managing the team, he did not lose that connection with the riders/staff resulting in his forgetting what it is/was like to be in their shoes.  Maybe that was the case in the early Saxo days and thru the mid-2000's.  Whatever the situation it's amazing to see how far things have gone away from the "glory days" (if you want to call them that) in that team.
Tinkov reminds me of a former boss.  When things were good they were really, really good.  When things were bad they were really, really bad.  Everyone needs motivation, but the "perform or else - that's why we hired you" approach just doesn't work with some personalities.  I know in my situation at a former employer, that polarized environment drove a lot of people away.  They just couldn't handle the massive shifts from good to bad over and over.
It will be interesting to see what Berto does in this environment.  IMO he's not mentally strong enough to take Tinkovs overbearing management style in the team.  I think what Saga needs is to be schooled on tactics and how to read the race. But doesn't lookmlike he's getting that at T-S.  Just perform or else.
My 2 cents.

I think Sagan will work fine for Tinkov. He gets the Russian mentality. In fact I think he has the Russian mentality. I mean Oleg himself would have pinched the podium girl's ass if he were there.

Its not that Berto isnt mentally strong enough imo. Its just that he has achieved way too much to put up with a tyrant telling him how to prepare and perform as a professional. He'll either split or retire.

You make a valid point about Sagan, considering they're both from eastern Europe, and may have some other similarities. Be that as it may, Sagan needs to sharpen up on his tactics. He's been racing strong but not smart.

Riis seems to have lost touch with the riders maybe? The Schlecks and some others used to cry about his early season military style preparation, but he was the only one to ever get ANY results out of the Schlecks, and Cancellara has not really had the success that he had riding for Riis

Still nothing for Saxo, Sagan is supposed to have multiple classics wins career wise by now. Bjarne and the west Wing tv show story, that's a disengaged employee. Happy May 1!!

Good point about leadership Red Tornado. I had a boss this winter (at a ski shop huge rental volume. He was awesome when times got tough he worked harder always friendly and consistent. A joy to work with, which led to a great work ethic from everyone. Tinkov gives me the feeling he is the Jerry Jones of team owners, on the sidelines guy. That may not be true but something doesn't seem to click.
