Wish I had time to watch the Tour. This climbs looks unreal.

She's a beauty but we won't be climbing her. We'll either pass directly underneath or over top as part of Stage 6 from La Toussuire to Megeve (156k; 3800m climbing) which will take us over Chaussy (first climb in TdF tomorrow), Madaleine and finally Saissies.

It follows an equally brutal Stage 5 over Sarenne (back side of the Alpe, we'll be barreling down the Alpe), Croix de Fer and La Toussuire (both on menu this TdF), 115k, 3600 m climbing and Stage 4 with Lautaret, Galibier, Croix de Fer and Les Deux Alpes ( 167k, 4200 m climbing).

Those three are the heavy point of the Haute Route although Stage 2 with Bonette, Vars and d'Izoard (150k, 4000m climbing) will also be one to remember. Both Haute Route and TdF are doing a double over Croix de Fer. Reason is same, closure of west side of Lauteret due to problems with a tunnel after a landslide.

I don't think I'd ever say this but I am getting mentally tired of cycling. Did 150k Sat, 105k Sun, 88 Mon, easy 25k commute Tue, 88k again last night and today 191k. Almost 700k over last 7 days and 11,000 m of climbing (that climbing is only half of what we'll do in Haute Route). Three more weeks of training left; gotta keep at it.

Wow! I could NEVER do that on a bike or even in a car. I would have top notch nasty vertigo on that road!!! When I was in CA in April we descended out of the mountains down to Highway 1 on the coast and I had to do it at a sloooow pace and just look straight ahead, no taking in the view, no noticing the huge drop offs right at the edge of the road without any shoulders or guardrails. That one looks way waorse!

With rain coming in for the weekend, I hope your coach gives you the weekend off. You sound ready and just need to keep it fresh from here on in.

I don't have a coach but I am giving myself the weekend off :-)

It is raining hard already here.

Next week I ride Monday short one then RAMROD 150 miles Thu. Then another good training block week after, then final week here relatively easy. For first week in France ahead of Haute Route I have a double Ventoux ascent planned. Then 4 days to eat and rest up.

Croix de Fer downhill looked tricky. Good to know.

RAMROD looks like an easy training ride by comparison.

I hope you are able to post some status during Haute Route. Will any of the family be going with you?

SidebySide - no family; they don't like to ride around in support and were already complaining about the 2 days in Italy in 2012 being a guys' trip when I rode with my wife's cousins. So I got 3 wks to myself :-)

Catching a lot of flack for all the training time :-(

This year Haute Route has social media updates so each time I pass a timing mat (each col and at finish) you'll see it posted on FB. Same with pics taken.
