Very much impressed with Dumoulin's riding these last three tough mountain stages. He's managed to keep it tight. Fingers crossed that he can make wednesday payback time and regain the red jersey but whatever happens he's managed to put the fear in the little climbers this Vuelta.

Not only the first real Dutch GT GC contender since Zoetemelk (!) But he's a real home boy and speaks same dialect as me.

so.........does anybody have any thoughts on the TT tomorrow? Can Dumoulin take back some time and then some? Or has he gone too deep the last few days in the Mtns?

I like his chances, it would be great if he wins it, would also be great for Purito, he's waaaay over due, Aru is young, his day will come, just as long as he does not become a cry baby punk like Nibali

I've seen the 3 minutes marker floated as time Dumoulin could take back tomorrow and giving him a 1 minute advantage he'd likely need in hand to carry the red jersey to Madrid with couple tricky mountain stages still looming.

While he lost time on the steep ramps yesterday he did still look relatively fresh when they hit the final climb and for a while moved to front. But after 2.5 weeks and after a rest day all bets are off. Purito could surprise if he's on a good day. So could Mayka. Aru I don't know.

I don't think Purito has it to surprise anyone in a TT, but I would be happy to be proven wrong!!

yeah, Aru is the un-known, his only other TT this length was in the Giro, where he bled major time to Contador

Purito is not very good in a TT either, but he's better than Aru, but if he can limit his losses, who knows, would love to see him win the overall, but I think nothing is settled until after Saturday.
Dumoulin has to be feeling pretty good right now with his chances

Purito lost only a few seconds to Dumoulin earlier this year in a hilly TT (Murcia?) so that's why I am saying he could surprise. But this one is more suited to Dumoulin.

Looks like Dumoulin is Orange Crushing the opposition :-)

That's a German team, right? But they should be wearing orange next year. Impressive.

Registered in Germany but they started as a Dutch team and still have strong orange streak.

Aru looks set to win the Vuelta though with still couple tough mountain and hilly stages ahead and being only 3 seconds behind.

Tough, tough break for Quintana. (Getting sick early on and losing 3 minutes.) Had he stayed healthy, done just one of his TdF rides here (and there were plenty of opportunities at this Vuelta!) and put in this ride, 93 seconds behind Dumoulin and 20 seconds ahead of the next GS contender save his teammate, he'd be looking at red.

The more I see of this guy, the more I like him. I didn't hear one word of self pity while he was dying inside and struggling on the bike. Gets healthy and pulls off this TT. Hat's off to him! He's looking at 5th place overall. Majka better stay on it and Rodriguez isn't allowed a bad day.

Have to root for Dumoulin. He's stayed tough in the mountains and what a ride today, though Aru acquitted himself very well. Now to see what his team can do.

Will Tom Hang on?
I hope so, would love to see him steal this Vuelta, NO ONE saw this coming.

Love the scenery where they are riding, looks just like my home here in New Mexico, it's easy to see why my ancestors settled here some 475 years ago

Good day today for Tom, a bit of a mini classics finish which suited him. Degenkolb briefly pacing him; normally that would have been a stage to his liking. One more hard day to go.

Perfect race today by Astana. So close yet so far for Dumoulin. He'll certainly learn from this one. Giant mucked up, how the stage unfolded was entirely predictable - textbook. Either way, he's made giant strides this race, going from being on no one's radar as GC contender to being talk of town for much of the race.
