question:  I just saw the last 3K so I missed some of what happened.

Uran won the stage - what happened there?  Did Wiggins give him the "go" to leave him and go for the stage win.

It looks like Uran went (attacked) with 7k to go

Is he not supposed to help out the team leader?

(in the past) If someone attacked & went for a stage win leaving a certain disgraced ex tour rider behind... would lead to a postal (pun intended) situation for sure.

Well, the French commentators were saying that Sky was forcing the other teams to chase, but then Wiggins popped. Wonder what the team bus is going to be like tonight? Maybe they'll "forget" to pick up Uran for the next big mountain stage?

He had to give him the green light as we saw he was in no position to contend today. Ryder must be sick,Wiggo done, I can't see him putting 2 min on Nibali. Looks like a Evans Nibali battle the rest of the way. Gotta love Uran's podium act..........having a good time

The writing was on the wall so Sky is going to take out of this Giro what they can at this point.

Didn't see the stage today, but lots of potential reasons why Uran was given his freedom....

1) Wiggo was off and knew it, so he gave Uran the green light.

2) Uran was relatively close on GC. Giving him the green light to go for the win moves him up on GC and makes him an another threat. SKY can then send Uran up the road and force other teams to chase and Wiggo can then counter.

3) SKY knows WIggo doesn't have the legs and is covering their bases.

4) Uran went rogue.

I'm going with #3, personally.

Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

At the base of the final climb the commentators were wondering why Wiggins was sitting at the back of the lead group. I think that is when he gave green light for Uran's attack out of ear's reach from the competition who were all at front. Good move by Sky; to me it looked to be planned; now they have two irons in the fire sitting at 3rd and 4th. Ryder done and might as well pack it in and prepare for France. Gesink went backward a little bit but we knew that was going to happen, he never deals with rest days wells.

Tactically it made sense to send him from a team perspective.

If the other gc guys chase, Wiggins gets a free ride and a chance to counter when Uran is brought back.

If Wiggins don't have it (and he didn't), Sky puts another GC card in play.

I think the Sky strategy from he start was to bank enough time for Wiggins in the big TT that he could lose some to the pure climbers and still have or be very close to the pink jersey. As we saw, that didn't happen. Sky then chose to watch what Wiggins would do but really banked on Uran as their best shot at pulling off the final two weeks where there would be a number of stages Wiggins is not suited for.

Keith, the flaw in your scenario is that Wiggins didn't have it to hang on let alone counter.

I don't see a flaw in my scenario Ben.

My second assertion is pretty much what happened. Uran and Wiggins are one second apart in 3rd and 4th.

Ryder lost TWENTY minutes!!!!

Agree with your assessment Keith on sending someone up the road but I think Ben is basically saying that they didn't quite execute the second part of the plan which was having Wiggo sit in and get a ride up the mtn; he was obviously a little off the pace.

Man, that guy must be frustrated as heck because he probably went into the race with high personal expectations.

Ryder is now in stage hunt territory since GC is long gone (if he's not sick or otherwise injured).

Like the mythical Samson, Wiggo is lacking without his hair...facial in his case...maybe if it grows back by week 3 he will conquer all.

Keith, Wiggins and Uran may be one second apart, but Uran is a lot closer to the podium. THe nest two weeks are for Uran to gain and Wiggins to lose.

Seems like it was planned and Wiggo is open to supporting Uran if that how things play out. Wiggins didn't look bad today and overall Sky is in a better place then they were before the stage.

WTF happened to Garmin? the whole team loses 20 minutes?

What is Vaughters' story?
