How fast do you think he was going? I just caught the replay, that guy was shredding it, living on the edge, that was impressive

impressive!

Always sad to see the riders chasing behind when they realize it is all over and they are trying to convince each other to start chasing.

glad the race wasn't decided by that moto.

Or his career ended. Jeez. The camera moto gave him a nice draft as he was first pulling away.

The moto drivers need to back off. This needs to come from the UCI as part of keeping their race sanctioned.

^^ This. I'm always a bit surprised at the free ride some of these guys get.

Case in point, and I know it's the roll out, not the winning break but still. Anyway, here the link to the start of Chequamegon where Tilford gets a free ride for a few hundred meters. About 3:30 into the video

I don't think the camera moto could have done things much differently nor do I think Nibali got any advantage out of it. We do want camera action, don't we? Besides equal opportunity for all riders.

Now that neutral service moto that almost squashed him like a fly against that rock wall, that's something different. Although in fairness they did signal him to pass on left.

Just watched the video... holy crap! How many lives does that cat have? A couple of them expired on that descent, 'fer sure.

OC, they signaled him to pass left a bit late- he'd already committed to the outside line.

He is very comfortable on his Tarmac bike. He took a ton of risks. Bike riders really are crazy people

Dale - yeah they were obviously caught off guard which they should never be.

Cyclists are definitely a crazy bunch. Don't know how many times I was passed or cut off during HR by guys diving into blind corners. For what? If you're passing me you're racing for 370 spot in a race for peanuts. I'll pass you again on the way up. Goes well 99.9% of the time but one landed in a ravine and one supposedly broke his back.

He burned a few lives for sure Dale, he took some risks, and then that moto in the way!!

I have been known to cut loose on a few descents, but, I'm a bigger guy, it's hard work to the top, and I'm an old motorcycle racer, when you start to drift in corners, you know it's crazy. 70 plus mph in the Jemez Mtns. from Los Alamos to Jemez Springs was the latest, no sharp turns, so you can really let it fly, at the end I always say, "Damn that was fun, and very stupid"

I race a car. A lil' sliding is expected. On TWO wheels? No thanks! I've accidentally done it once or twice on my road bike, and I slowed way down afterwords...shook me up.

The fastest I've ever gone a bicycle was 55mph, and that was full aero tuck, on a wide straight descent. Nowadays, I don't think I ever get over high 30's, my old joints don't allow me to get that small anymore. And that's on straight decent.

A couple of relevant quotes from Stirling Moss--

Pretty ballsy descent....

Unrelated side note- so much for this being the Race of the Falling Leaves. Everything looked pretty fookin' green to me....which matches everything around here. Barely lost any leaves on the trees so far....weird fall.

Didn't they slide Lombardia forward a few weeks on the schedule a few years ago? It might work from a perspective of rider participation, but it messed up my internal calendar.
