The stage where Contador took off after Brambilla, was quickly joined by race leader Quintana, each with two teammates and Froome distanced.  The 90 man peloton finished way outside the time limit.

This is a more balanced picture of that day than I saw last summer.  Also (in my eyes) racing at its best.  And why I like both Contador and Quintana.  Opportunists.  And willing to lay it ll on the line.

I found it interesting that Contador and his peloton bound teammate compared power numbers after.  Contador did exactly twice the work.  Riders who finished way outside the time limit and did that little work were allowed to continue.  Yes the race had been hard, but still, that's quite a precedent to set.

Same here... I love their style of racing with the carpe diem attitude.
Mixed feelings on DQ'ing 90 guys. It dang sure would have made it one for the books!

It's been fun, watching this kid grow as a racer.

Yeah Spud... there were plenty of us screaming at the TV during that stage.

Great racing. Someday I'd like to see them exclude the grupetto.

Always loved that about Contador, has always been an instigator, and willing to lay it all on the line at times. I think he taught Quintana a valuable lesson that day, sometimes it's the stage where you least expect it, where you can do some serious damage, Froome lost the Vuelta that day, Sky paid a heavy price for a second of inattention

Again, the Sky weak point, asleep at the wheel early in a race where the big climb comes late. (Were they syncronizing their computers?)

I really like that Valverde took his minute time penalty and still pulled off an impressive win. Contador doesn't quite have his old domininence (lack of PEDs and an excess of age?) but is still showing his old willingness and is still fun to watch. (And will never be caught dead syncronizing his computer.)

Another race won by old sckool racing. Hooray!

yup Ben, pretty interesting, Sky got caught napping, again, paid a heavy price, I think they were all texting with Wiggo, getting the lowdown on TUE's............oh, and maybe checking Strava?

Valverde was uber impressive, basically took BMC's complaint on the TTT, and shoved it down there their throat........

Valverde always seems to be a cut above in the early season. Then as season progresses others catch up to him.

Still would like to see him race the cobbles one day. He came close last year but decided against it last minute.
