.....the forum’s favorite rider / whipping boy. That’s right....I rode with TOMMY D!!!

He coaches some guys locally and was in town apparently and showed up for our group ride today. Someone on the ride said it was him, but it didn’t really look like him (now has a shaved ehead), so I didn’t believe it. Was confirmed after the ride that it was him.

Wish I had realized it earlier...woulda asked him how his olans for the 2021 Vuelta were coming along.

Here is the Strava file to one of the guys from the ride with a pic with him and Tommy D...definitely him.

The irony here is that many of us have questions about Dan and how strong he is anyway....

That's a nice 4th of July surprise. Should you not be sitting in your front yard with a beer yelling at kids to stay off your lawn instead of cycling?

We're hosting three young female riders from a Quebec racing team at moment. My French is half descent but Quebecois is something else altogether. Bloody gibberish. Next thing you know the ladies ask if they can use our kitchen for some cooking, end up using all the pots and pans, and then stuff our fridge stock full of Tupperware with cooked supplies for the week. This should be an interesting 10 days lol...

He coaches one of the guys I know here and see his group training a lot around here. CINCH, I believe. He even hosts some indoor trainer workouts at a brewery up in Longmont during the winter. What appeared to be the entire CINCH entourage stormed the Golden Gran Fondo last week. So smooth and fast while looking completely effortless.

I'm sure he still puts in the volume needed to be fast but it's very obvious that good genes play a big role.

Yeah, talent goes a really long way. It's like my friend, Master's crit Provincial champ one week, next week he joins me for OTGG without any gravel riding experience on a bike that's too small, a stem that's 3 cm too short and some dubious looking tires and canty brakes. Of course he keeps up with the specialists. That's just the way it is.

Yup...Cinch. There were 4 guys (including TD) on the ride today. They peeled off for the usual “longer” route while some of us cut it short....apparently he turned it into a clinic on riding and tactics once they split off.

Sounds like Tommy D was still in town for our Saturday ride as well. I didn’t go because I did a Century yesterday and didn’t want to ride that hard / far today.

Quite honestly, I don’t understand why everyone was getting so ga-ga over the guy...he was, at best, a mediocre pro who doped. Why am I supposed to be excited about riding with him?

Exactly CK. We have a local who used to run a local shop and was on the verge of making it big until he got busted for diverting shop profits for massive drug purchases. He took some time off and had now been welcomed back.

Tommy D was supposedly the next Great White Hope of American cycling. Because he was supposedly under Lance Armstrong's tutelage and was seen as the next great American Tour winner, he was very much over-hyped.
