Fun on several counts.  One, the ticketed rider appealed and using the cop's dash cam won the appeal.  (He was ticketed for impeding traffic.  Not a violation riding as he and his friends were in Michigan.)  The judge noted the officer broke the law based on that same video evidence.

On a personal note. apparently the ticket rider was a Wolverine based on his blue jersey with its great big "M" (and taking place outside of Ann Arbor).

And the poor image shows a typical Michigan road (edit: and that ubiquitous grey sky) that brings back memories.

Read that this morning. Cops and their attitudes. Lower court judges and their ignorance or disregard of law. I take it the losing party is stuck with the $10k tab?

Just gets my blood boiling. I was younger, it was a different time, different parts of the country. Not sure, but I used to get sh!t from cops on my bike too often. "Unsafe lane change" for going over last minute to take left fork. (Like I should just back up traffic in the left lane for a hundred feet.) Given a citation FOR NOTHING when they had a drag net for bike messengers. I saw the cops. Came to a complete stop at the red light with foot down, but cop said my front tire went several inches over the stop line. I'm getting angry all over again. Effing power trips.

Reminds me of my 14 year old cousin that got a ticket for running an uphill red light on the way home from school. At that time in Washington state it was a mandatory court appearance with a parent or guardian. He KNEW his dad would kill him so he coerced his 17 year old sister to appear with him.

The judge asked him how he plead.

"Guilty, your honor, with an explanation."

"Let's hear it."

"I was on my bicycle and traffic was clear in both direction. Since it was uphill and I had the momentum I figured it was safer than coming to a stop, having traffic back up behind me and having to start uphill with all those cars behind me."

"BICYCLE!?! You were on a bicycle?"

"Yes, your honor. I'm 14 and don't have a drivers license, I was on my bike headed home from school."

And with that the judge laid his shaking head on the table, looked up, told my cousin that the case is dismissed and proceeded to bawl out the cop.

Some 40 year later the story still is legendary in the family.
