I am so tired of the trainer. I am so looking forward to the spring thaw and a few rains to rinse the streets of all the salt.

Have you tried Zwift? Can make the trainer MUCH more tolerable.

But yeah, i’m Ready for some warmer weather too....was marginal this AM and some guys ent out, but I was worried about black ice (and was watching my dog who had surgery yesterday).

One of my buddies messaged about a 45 mile mostly gravel ride... sure I'm in.
We got to mile 25 and he said we're at the bail out point*. Nah, I'm in for the full meal deal.
20 miles later I'm knackered; legs are trashed, arms are sore, mouth is gritty from the spray, clothes are a royal mess, and the bike is filthy... so glad to have been outdoors and off the trainer!

*He later said almost everyone cuts the ride short and heads home at that point. Glad I did the whole ride 3:30 with about 3500' of climbing

Some warmer weather would be nice so my neck and shoulders don't feel like a gargantuan monkey trap after every ride.

Did a snow grind run (with crampons for traction) on Saturday 2 miles with 2500 feet up in 52.5 mins huffing and puffing all the way and wasn't feeling it for today's ride so cut it short at 95kms.

2:45 on the trainer yesterday....last 30-45 min was tough. Had to turn the Zwift screen around so I couldn’t see it, otherwise I was just locked in on it and my mileage / time...even with a movie running on my other screen.

Yeah...ready for spring.

You are focusing on wrong part. The 50odd minutes going uphill on Saturday was the killer. I'm sure my 95k on most road wasn't as hard ad your 45 mile gravel.

I hear ya. Although the advent of smart trainers in combination with apps like Zwift have completely revolutionized indoor workouts and has helped me personally stay in better condition throughout the winter, I'm mentally cooked at this point. I'm really close to throwing the bike in the car, filling up the tank and driving directly South until I get into some warm weather, Blues Brothers style.

But I won't. Nope, I'll continue to slug away down in the basement like a zombie.

2:45 on the trainer deserves a freakin' award.

6ix, I always found this time of the year the most frustrating in Denver / Boulder. You can get some really nice days, but a whole lot of crap days will surround them. Spring never really seemed to arrive and suddenly it was June. But then I moved to Chicago and found out what crap weather really was...

The tough thing for us right now is that there is still a fair amount of snow on the ground....especially around intersections, driveways and tree lawns where everything gets dumped. Black ice can be prevalent, so even if you get a warm-ish day, it can be really dangerous to ride.

But 50's are headed are way on Weds / Thursday....hoping to sneak a lunch ride in both days.

Your tales remind me of the 6 years I lived in Onterrible, which was 6 years too many. The too cold/too hot binary thing was strong there too. The only good time of year always was early fall (Indian Summer). I told my wife back then that if she wanted to stay in Canada, the only place we could possibly live was west coast. There's a reason why this is one of the most unaffordable places to live on the planet.

Believe it or not, I live on a hill here ( a whoopin 80 m high) and all the downhills going north still have a lot of snow on them because they are perpetually shaded in winter. The Black Ice is strong there too. But headed south out of town and down the 80 m to sea level, the riding conditions change to perfect. Just have to put up with flat riding.

It's 50's and sunny today and tomorrow so will just take the mountain-bike out on the trails (Coal Creek, Rock Creek, etc.) Good way to rack up some easy miles without having to deal with any traffic and not worrying about getting the road bike dirty. You end up spending more time cleaning the bike afterwards than actually riding it!

Weather channel calls for blizzard conditions on Wednesday. FML. Back to the trainer.

We have a snowfall warning out as we speak. Another 10-15 cm possible. Ah well, the legs are tired for a few days anyway. As long as next weekend is clear again.

I cleaned my road/gravel bike once this winter (the chain more often); I am sure about 5lbs of dirt came off. Major servicing will have to wait till May so it is ready for OTGG.

Sorry if this makes me a d*ck, but I just enjoyed a spin around the neighborhood after work in 60 degrees, thank you daylight savings time and a short warm spell. First ride outdoors in months. Less than 15 miles of softpedalling, sure it hardly counts, but I had to leave time to grill some salmon and steak on the grill. Some days, life is not hard!

So desperate to get outside for exercise, I actually ran today at lunch.....first time since last year when that doggo nipped me.
