"My word doesn't matter anymore."

No, Mr. Jivestrong, it doesn't.

And he's now talking about himself in the third person...as unrepentant as ever.

"I would want to change the man that did those things, maybe not the decision, but the way he acted," he continued.

"The way he treated people, the way he couldn't stop fighting. It was unacceptable, inexcusable."

The unacceptable and inexcusable part I agree with.

Why am I hearing that in Morgan Freeman's voice?

The background to the interview is perhaps more interesting than the interview itself.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/cycling/30986137

"It would happen on familiar ground for the 43-year-old, Mellow Johnny's - the bike store he owns in Austin, the city in which he has kept his head down since he went from the ultimate all-American hero to pariah. The meeting would take place after dark, once the shop had closed, and no customers or passers-by could cause any grief. We were politely asked to try to avoid filming him with any of the Trek bicycles on display."

Interesting also that they should compare LA to "Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson in the race for the title of sport's most notorious cheat.". In retrospect, wasn't it clear that only one of Johnson's competitors should have been allowed to start that race? The rest were also-cheats.

love this quote "The comeback was the bridge. But that was my decision. It was one of the biggest mistakes in my life. I don't have a good reason for why I wanted to come back. No reason at all."
Ummmm, maybe your ego was just too big, maybe this young Contador kid was a threat to your Seven TDF's?
I have always said the "Comeback" was the mistake, really pissed some people off. Nobody was going to put up with this guy any longer

Spot on, Gonzo. I called it at the time....he was either going to get caught or it would just serve up the opportunity to dig up the past.

Zero good was going to come out of it. If he raced clean, he was gonna get clobbered (see 2010) and if he raced dirty, he would get caught. And it was his blood values from 2009 which started the whole ball rolling.....

The way I remember it it wasnt so much the blood values as it was Floyd being excluded from his squad and raising hell with the Feds after that.

The Feds had started their investigation before Flandis went on his tirade. Flandis helped seal the deal, but the ball was already rolling.

But to further expand on stronz's point, no comeback means no opportunity for Flandis to try and shake LA down for a spot on Radio Shack.

So the comeback was a bad idea across a number of different areas.....all of which led to his downfall.

I'm glad that what so many already knew came to light for the rest - whether they accept it or not.

LA made a cameo appearance on a cafe racer show called "Naked Speed" last night. They were at Sturgis revealing a custom moto that a builder Dustin Kott had completed for pro racers Ben and Eric Bostrom. LA was there at Sturgis along with Ben and Eric.
The show host commented on his "problem". LA's comment was that the people at Sturgis have been pretty cool to him and something about ".... After all this is where all the outlaws hang out right?"

I have always loved that quote. Not lying to everyone, his kids, etc. Not trashing and ruining peoples lives. No his biggest regret is doing something that helped him get shown for who he really is.

Gotta love it.

Jeebus gawd, y'all. I thought it had all been said, like what, 6 years ago? Why even dignify it...
