Then I heard about the first 35+ event of the year in my district.
10+ man pileup on the FIRST loop of a circuit race. Guys with punctured lungs...stitches.
Yeah...um, no thanks. The family business plan cannot afford such risks. |

Meh.....crashes could happen anywhere, anytime. How many races have you done over the years and how many have had crashes that serious? Damn few in my experience.

| one of the first mtb beginner races i did a guy close to the front went down and snapped his leg. when i finally got up to him there were people helping but he was screaming and you could see the bone sticking out of his leg. jeez. that definitely put a somber mood on the rest of the race. that's pretty much it though for all the years i raced. |

Get your ATB squared away and head up to Michaux, at least if you crash it'll be your own fault. I'll buy you beer. the series is 3 races on 3 unique courses

Word--> Cyclocross. Wrecks are at 12mph in the sand or dirt and generally don't involve a dozen guys.

I commute through DC and have for 20 years now. While I will grant you that crashes can happen anytime, I am just not so into racing that the additional risk is worth it anymore, CK.
I'll still be riding and I plan on getting in fast group ride shape, but I no longer see no reason to pin on a number to get my ya-ya's out on a road bike. |

| I was in that race KR. A guy (not the one with the busted ribs) gets out of the saddle to attack/bridge and his rear wheel fell out of the frame and chaos reigned. I race masters primarily.....they are generally smarter than that. |

| I suppose if you are really jamming on it and the rear wheel is unweighted, it can get yanked out of the frame? Someone posted a handlebar video of it on youtube. |
