Last Saturday was the big ADK ride.  Lovely sunset Friday evening on the island at the lake house.  Big dinner with 22 people and five dogs in attendance.  Twelve of us up at 4:30 a.m. Saturday (11 riders and the support truck driver WHO ROCKED!).  Two boats of us over to the shore where we mounted up to begin our journey.  170 miles and lots of hills, some very fun fast flats also.  We rode in the mountains, along Lake Champlain for a bit, by streams and ponds and part way up one hard hitting climb at mile 120, a gorgeous waterfall crashing down off the cliffs of Giant Mountain at least 100 feet.  New pavement along the western shore of Schroon Lake (mile 142-152 or so) with a wiiiiide shoulder.  Really fun stretch as we could very safely ride two abreast in a fast paceline in an area where last year the pavement was awful and riding in a paceline kinda dicey.  About mile 165, turned left for the final hurdle, a nasty steep climb of about 2 miles (with a quick false summit about halfway up of course) followed by a 2 mile fast descent, a small rise and another mile or so of fast descending back into town (Bolton Landing) and out to the marina area for the boat trip back to Recluse Island.  All 11 starters finished, no injuries, only two flats (one was mine).

The weather, beautiful sunrise, sunny for the morning, clouds rolling in as the day progressed with heavy rains forecast.  When we were all regrouping at the end and loading the coolers etc. from the SAG vehicle on to the boats, it started sprinkling.  No heavy rains until we were all showered, changed, and relaxing comfortably after another huge dinner with our by then very tipsy, shorter route rider friends.  And, hardly any wind all day.

Rested Sunday, did not ride yesterday, back on the bike at lunch today feeling about 90-95% recovered.

Woohoo!

Sounds like a splendid ride but how did the butt feel? Did you end up with new saddle?

And of course all this talk about scenery is useless wo pics.

Got into RAMROD, July 30 150 mile 10,000ft rambler around Mt Rainier. In meantime training for Haute Route Alps continues. Did the equivalent of a typical stage today, 135km +3500m, triple Cat1 ascent of Mt Seymour. Boring as hell as the hill has no scenery, just trees and grade, but I'm sure the alps will make training worthwhile.

That's cool that you have 11 like-minded folks to do that and beers to the 12th man.

OC, a buddy of mine did RAMROD a few years back. Said it was a great ride. And the alps, cool.

The new saddle was just what the doc ordered. The old one was breaking down in the spot where my sit bones hit, but the rest was fine. When I would check it out, it felt okay because I was pressing in the dead center of things and my sit bones hit a little farther out. DOH! Shoulda figured that out and gotten the new one sooner.

Great job! I used to live in Lake Placid and probably rode a lot is the same roads. Never that kind of mileage in one day, however.

Cool is one way to describe it...scary perhaps more so. 6 regular stages, 1 uphill iTT, 840 kms and about 22,000 m of climbing over 22 cols. They just made stages 4 and 5 a little harder with the landslide that's forcing TdF reroute also affecting the Haute Route. Double lucky on RAMROD, the traditional route via Inspiration Point is back this year. Brings back some memories too from when I climbed Mt Rainier back in 2000.
