now that the weather is cooling off my right knee is getting pretty crunchy again. not much pain, but i'm pretty sure there's a good bit of stuff floating around in there, and it's getting pretty noisy walking up stairs. should i wait until it's fairly unusable before getting it scoped, or take prophylactic action?

Personally, I'd rather get it done before it gets too bad. Faster recovery, less extensive surgery, etc.

Word of advice though - if anyone suggest a Lateral Release, don't let them. And make sure you specifically prohibit them from doing it once they start the surgery. Some releases give docs the freedom to do extra procedures if they feel they are necessary.

thx CK; i'll keep that in mind re: LR. pretty sure i would just need a basic clean-up scope. had the left one done years ago after tearing my meniscus playing tennis, and it's held up well. will contact the same surgeon who has also done my wrist from moto accident.

Oh yeah. meant to add that by getting it done relatively soon, you are in the off-season and preserve all of next year. WOuld kinda suck if the knee went downhill in April next year, just as things reach tolerable levels to ride outside.

I have never had any luck with kineseotape. tried different brands, different taping methods and for different injuries. Nada, zippo, goose egg.

Tried it for Achilles, IT band and now plantar fasciitis. Has never provided any relief.

Honestly, I have never had anyone effectively explain how the stuff is supposed to work. It doesn't provide support and doesn't limit movement. Some talk about it helping to "lift" layers of skin / muscle to improve blood flow, or provide subtle feedback on proper muscle movement (forget the term for that).

But lots of people use it and lots of people swear by it. I keep trying it (and trying different taping methods).....maybe some day I'll "get it"!!

RockTape sticks pretty good compared to KT Tape. Spider Tech makes pre-cut strips and patches designed for specific body areas and that does stuff sticks really well (also costs a lot more).

KT Tape can be found pretty easily at Dicks and CVS. CVS also carries KT Tape Pro, which sticks WAY better than normal KT Tape.

amazon 4&5 star reviews of rock tape outnumber 1&2 star reviews 13 to 1, and they appear to be all or mostly verified purchasers. my wife has problems with her achilles so we'll see. hey even placebos have their place!

Like I said, plenty of people have reported success with the stuff. It is absolutely worth a shot.

Most of the applications have multiple taping options, so you may wanna experiment with different techniques if the first one doesn't work. Also check how methods and applications vary from one brand to another. RockTape may have a different taping method for one injury vs. KT Tape, etc.

I hope it works for you!!
