Stage 7 will make the second consecutive day that suits a breakaway, and will also be the second stage to celebrate an Italian cycling hero. The hilly route through the Tuscan countryside will be ridden in honor of Gino Bartali, ten years after his death. The Classics specialists riding the Giro d'Italia will have this day marked out, as it features 20 kilometers of strade bianche (gravel roads), with the second of the two 10 kilometer sections being ridden mostly uphill, and ending just 8 kilometers from the finish.
