Sunday, July 13, 2008 Boonen strikes in Austria by VeloNation Press at 2:23 PM EST   comments Categories: Pro Cycling   Quick Step rider Tom Boonen won the final stage of the Tour of Austria. The stage started in Podersdorf am Neusiedler See and finished in Vienna. Boonen beat Team LPR's Roberto Ferrari and Renè Weissinger from Volksbank in the final sprint. “I am really pleased with this victory" explained Boonen "I really like to leave my mark when I compete in stage races. Vienna is a remarkable and beautiful city and I wanted to win here. I won already in several capitals like Paris, London, Brussels. My team-mates were fantastic today, even though we had quite an unusual formation for the sprint in respect to the normal ‘train’ that launches my sprints. They did a great job leaving me just 150 metres from the finish line”. When asked about his condition Boonen added: “My program has been calculated in function of the Vuelta and races that follow it. I have to say though that I’m on reasonable form, something that enables me to be competitive.
