Van der Schueren trying to get additional budget to sign more riders

Samuel SanchezTwo months before the start of 2014, former Olympic champion Samuel Sanchez still remains without a contract for next season, as does his Euskaltel Euskadi team-mate Igor Anton. According to Het Nieuwsblad, both Spaniards are on the radar of those behind the previous Accent.Jobs – Groupe Gobert team setup, who may be able to offer them a lifeline.

Four slots remain available in the pro continental team, but at present it is a question of budget; Hilaire van der Schueren, who is moving across to manage the setup after Vancansoleil DCM folded, is working hard to try to get additional sponsorship.

If he is successful in that, it appears that Sanchez and Anton may be given an offer. Another name mentioned is the Belgian rider Kevin Seeldraeyers, who said earlier this week that he too is without a deal and has his fingers crossed that he is not forced to retire.

A large number of riders have been left on the sidelines due to the demise of several teams. Those stopping include the WorldTour Euskaltel Euskadi and Vancansoleil DCM setups, plus the Pro Continental Sojasun, Crelan-Euphony and Champion System squads.

Van der Schueren confirmed earlier this month that he would be running the new squad, which will be backed by the construction company Wanty. Bjorn Leukemans is one of those who will be on board, although he has not been able to retain others such as Johnny Hoogerland and Thomas de Gendt.

They will go to Androni Gioccatoli – Venezuela and Omega Pharma Quick Step respectively.
