Leo Van Vliet, Dutch national director, named Lars Boom (Rabobank) and Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil) to the Dutch Worlds team. Both riders have had very successful grand tour debuts in the Vuelta A Espana with Boom winning stage 15 to Cardoba as Hoogerland sits in 12th overall.
Since the Netherlands placed outside of the top 10 in the UCI nations rankings it can only send six riders to Mendrisio, Switzerland for the race this month. The three other known riders are Robert Gesink (Rabobank), currently second overall in the Vuelta, national champion Koos Moerenhout (Rabobank), and Karsten Kroon (Saxo Bank).
The final spot is between Rabobank riders: Laurens ten Dam, Sebastian Langeveld, Bram Tankink and Pieter Weening. Langeveld looks to be the most likely candidate following his win in the GP Jef Scherens last week.
