This evening, Wednesday December 2nd, Tom Boonen will be the special guest on the television program “De laatste show”, the popular talk show broadcast on the Belgian channel Eén at 10.00 p.m. The Belgian Champion will officially launch the charity auction being held for Zita Deweghe, a little girl who has suffered from a serious congenital hearing problem since birth, and who will finally be able to undergo a surgical procedure that will allow her to hear her parents’ voice and to enjoy a normal life.

Starting this evening everybody can make an offer to obtain one of the special “black and white canvas” of the 2009 Team Quick Step riders, taken by the noted and appreciated Belgian photographer Henk Van Cauwenbergh. Each rider will sign the canvas with his name.

“I immediately took up the cause for little Zita," explained Boonen. “It’s important that athletes at a high level play a significant social role . For me, as for all the team, it’s a matter of great pride to be able to put our popularity to the service of people who are less fortunate. A victory in life is without a doubt more important than a victory on a bicycle.”

Proceeds from the auction, which will end on Friday December 11th, will be donated entirely to the cause for Zita.

Visit the Quick Step website to participate.
