Race Reports and Results
Tim Johnson (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) sealed up his third cyclo-cross National Championships in the men's elite race today, beating hometown favorite and 2008 winner Ryan Trebon (Kona-FSA) into second while Jonathan Page (Planet Bike) took third after returning from Europe.
The Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com team put in an incredible performance with Jeremy Powers taking the holeshot and driving off the front to keep a blistering pace. Trebon, Johnson, and Page followed Powers close behind, with Johnson able to follow wheels with teammate Powers throwing down out front.
A quick bike change after lap one was all the separation it took keep the stars and stripes out of Page's reach, with Powers eventually giving way for Johnson to solo across the finish for the win, while he faded back to fifth on the day. Trebon rode well, but just couldn't close the gap to Johnson in the end, while Page overtook a Todd Wells to snag the last podium spot on offer.
In the women's elite national championship race Katie Compton (Planet Bike) picked up where she left off in Bend, Oregon, with the UCI World Cup leader returning from across the pond and winning her sixth consecutive cyclocross national championship. Meredith Miller (California Giant) finished second with Amy Dombroski (Primus Mootry-Schlamm) coming in third.
