Rasmussen considering becoming Mexican to make Worlds

Michael Rasmussen is considering obtaining Mexican citizenship in order to race in the World Championships in Denmark next year. His wife is Mexican, making him eligible for the maneuver.

The Danish federation has said in the past that Rasmussen will never be invited again to compete for Denmark, following his violations against the whereabouts rule. "I would love to race in the World Championships in my own country," he said to Danish media, according to wielerupdate.nl. "If that is not possible as a Dane, then it surely will work as a Mexican."

Rasmussen was suspended for two years after he had violated the whereabouts rule multiple times. In some of his samples from the 2007 Tour, Dynepo was also found. However, the evidence could never officially be used, as the testing method was never sanctioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
