Schlecks to leave Saxo Bank and start new team

Today the Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Saxo Bank stars Andy and Frank Schleck are looking to part ways with Bjarne Riis in 2011. The brothers apparently intend to create a new team next year, and have named Marc Biver as the team manager and current Saxo Bank director Kim Anderson as the senior sports director.

Biver, 58, was born in Luxembourg but moved to French speaking Switzerland at the age of eight. He took over the Astana cycling team, formerly Manolo Saiz's Liberty Seguros team, in the wake of the Operacion Puerto scandal. The following year he was forced to step down after several high profile doping cases that included Matthias Kessler, Eddy Mazzoleni, Alexandre Vinokourov and Andrei Kaschekin.

Before his stint with the Kazakh team he had been the General Director of the International Management Group marketing agency, race director for the Tour de Suisse and also mentored Swiss cyclist Tony Rominger.

According to the Italian paper the Schleck's also have their sights set on teammate and reigning time trial world champion Fabian Cancellara. The Swiss rider is under contract with Bjarne Riis through 2011, so that will likely have to wait.

View ProfileNo, not Marc Biver. That'd make me lose a ton of respect for Frank and Andy.
