Milram's Wegmann out for a month

Fabian Wegmann is out for at least four weeks after his crash in stage three of Tirreno-Adriatico and will miss most of the classics season. The Milram rider complained about shoulder pain after he came down hard in the Italian stage race. It turned out to be a broken collarbone.

He subsequently had a successful procedure. "The operation yesterday went well and I can start tomorrow with my rehabilitation." Wegmann said.  "A crash with an injury is always bad, and in this case, doubly bitter for me.  I was in very good form and had plans for the three upcoming Tirreno-Adriatico stages, as well as the next races.  Now I can just look forward and get well again soon.  If all goes well, I can race again in four to five weeks."

Wegmann was the scheduled captain for the Springs Classics, in which he has done well in the past.

This is not the only bad news for Milram, as their Tirreno captain Linus Gerdemann had to abandon as well. Gerdemann led the race in the first two stages, but was weakened due to intestinal problems. Johannes Fröhlinger dropped out in stage three for the same reason. A race that started so well for Milram, with Gerdemann winning the opening stage, turned thus very bad for the German team.

Now with Wegemann out, the team will have to try to salvage a good Spring campaign in order to help secure a replacement for Milram in 2011.
