Will Routley (Jelly Belly pb Kenda) took victory in stage one of the Redlands Classic on a challenging 27.2 kilometer circuit through the streets of Beaumont. The Canadian made his move to join Luis Amaran (Jamis-Colavita) and Ben Jacques-Mayne (Bissell) in the closing kilometers of the race, taking home the final sprint just 10 seconds ahead of the charging peloton.
The race for general classification was narrowed following stage one, with a scant six seconds separating the top six riders. Ben Day of the Fly V Australia team retained his overall lead, but now has Ben Jacques-Mayne breathing down his neck on the same time, with today's winner Will Routely looming just one second behind.
