Amstel BeerToday's Amstel Gold Race was the scene of a series of alcohol tests carried out by Maastricht police for the team managers, presumably those staff that would be driving cars in the race caravan.  Sportweek.nl reported that none of the tests came back positive.

"This I have never seen," said Vacansoleil sports director Michel Cornelisse. Rabobank's team manager Frans Maassen didn't take the breathalyzer test. "They know me here," he told Sportweek with a wink.

While the tests came as a surprise, Holland's Classic is sponsored by a popular beer, Amstel Gold, and the stunt could have been done to help raise awareness of the dangers of drinking while driving.
