German Stefan Schumacher has signed a two year deal with team Quick Step. The 27 year-old German, winner of both 2008 Tour de France time trails, will add depth the the squad's line-up with proven success in one day races and his superior abilities when racing against the clock.
“The arrival of Stefan Schumacher will further add to the internationalism of our team and enhance the technical ability of the team" explained team manager Patrick Lefevere. "Over the past years he has proven to be an excellent all-round athlete able to stand out in the Time Trials and uphill climbs during both one day races and the great stage races.”
A member of the Gerolsteiner team, Schumacher is one of many talented riders searching for a new contract in 2009. “I’m looking forward to be part of this world class team” commented Schumacher. Many Gerolsteiner riders are finding a home with Team Milram, and likely others will end up in the Cervélo TestTeam camp.
