Strong cold winds brought Austrailian Allan Davis to a win in the 231 km second stage of the Tour de Pologne, form Płock to Olsztyn. Davis beat Spain’s Andoni Lafuente of Euskaltel-Euskadi and Poland’s Lukasz Bodnar from the Polska BGZ team in the final sprint.

Davis commented, “There was a three-man break in front of the pack but in the final Team CSC and Team Liquigas picked up the pace, and with 20 k to go my team went into action. The final was three laps around a circuit. The team did a great job and in the last kilometre Steven De Jongh, as always, guided me perfectly towards the finish-line.”

This is the sprinter's first victory in his new Quick Step strip. Previously he had come in third in the Vattenfall Cyclassics in Hamburg. For the Belgian team it was the 47th win of the 2008 season.

“It was fantastic to win for the first time wearing this jersey," explained Davis, who had already won a stage at the 2004 Tour de Pologne. “The organization of this team in the stage finals is amazing.”
