Four suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of former Olympic champion Dmitry Nelyubin. In 1988 Nelyubin was a member of the Soviet team that took home the gold medal in the 4000-meter team pursuit in Seoul, Korea.

The cyclist met with an untimely death on New Year's Day in 2005. He was with friends celebrating the occasion by lighting fireworks when an argument ensued with several other men. The altercation ended with Nelyubin
the victim of a fatal stabbing.

The men in custody were identified as natives of the Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria by the Investigative Committee of the Prosecutor General's office. No further details were available other than the case was now considered closed.
