Initial weather outlook is for warm and dry....65* and partly sunny. ENE winds @ 9 mph.

MVP is obviously the hot favorite, but he showed some signs of weakness yesterday and obviously the cobbles aren't easy on one's back. Could be a wide open year.

Quinn Simmons is out with "sickness" and a "lung infection". Note to PR managers - we all know it is COVID. Closing your eyes and pretending the bogeyman isn't there doesn't mean he won't get you.

Simmons was struck down with a sickness and lung infection that sidelined him from the Tour of Flanders at the turn of the month and is still in recovery.

Not that I really care about that POS.

The back seems totally fine. Even when he won Amstel in 2019 he had a hard time on some of the steeper hills where he's battling it out against lightweights. Between that and mental decompression from RVV win not surprised he performed less yesterday. He may also have "let it go" with an eye on Roubaix rather than go all out trying to win yesterday against a smart play by Ineos and Pidcock sitting pretty; he is riding a lot more deliberate this year. The extra week between RVV and Roubaix may work in his favor. But Roubaix is always wait and see, there are so many externalities that could impact the race

And what about last year's winner Colbrelli? Outfitted with a defilibrator, his racing days are (seem) done. Wow.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Lots of comparisons to Christian Eriksen, the Italian footballer who can no longer play in Italy, so he went back to the Premier League. So Italy is definitely out for Colbrelli, but whether the UCI allows him to race is still unclear.

Given the risk of the defibrilator going off while he is riding, I can't see how they let him back in the peloton, though. It is one thing if Eriksen gets a jolt and collapses on the pitch....it is another thing entirely if Colbrelli gets shocked in the middle of the peloton.

Drop all predictions...

Ben will like this, UCI just approved an in-race tire pressure management system; DSM will be riding with it.

"in-race tire pressure management system".  We used to call those things "pumps". But they were like the gear changes.  You had to stop to utilize it.

And yes, all my bikes are fitted with those one syllable tire pressure management systems.

So do we place bets on how many riders are going to now go too soft for the cobbles and either bottom out and destroy tires or run out of air and have to squish along the closing miles?

The maximum would be 7 riders. I’m not aware of anyone other than DSM using it.

And yes wondering as well how foolproof and bomb proof this system is although sounds like it’s been tested two years.

Found this post about the "tire pressure management" tech.
https://bikerumor.com/scope-atmoz-tire-pressure-management-system-uci-approval/
Basically it's a reservoir of compressed gas that can add pressure a finite number of times, up to about 92psi.

I could not agree more, CK. Not acknowledging Covid doesn't make it go away or turn out less severe. And as you mentioned, many do not care for that racist POS. Trek's behavior after his incident reminds me of the cover-your-ass moves Sky made to keep Gianni Moscon. In both cases, these riders should have been fired asap.

Quoted for truth. But the ability to go fast in bike races covers a lot of sins.

Back to the race, I'm kinda liking Pedersen for Sunday. His form has been really good and with so many riders out, he could be in a great position.

It's going to be one busy cockpit. Buttons for e-shifting, buttons for e-drive, buttons for the dropper post and now more buttons for dynamic tire pressure. Then of course there’s the power meter and radio buttons. Hahaha.

Nah, no descents in Roubaix...so no droppers.

Now suspension posts? Hmmmm.....

(I still rock a suspension post on my gravel bike....why more don't do it, I have no idea)

I agree on Pedersen. Based on his form he seems due for a big win. Suspect Sunday will become a numbers game, teams trying to isolate VDP. AF just posted their reckon on Strava with Merliers ride title being was this a reckon or a race? Someone is really motivated. Should be good. < br />
PS, w Deceuninck as cosponsor we should rename them DAF after the legendary Dutch car brand, still truck brand. There actually used to be a DAF cycling team in 80s.
