‘We agreed that it would be good for her to find a team that’s a better fit for her style’

Charlotte BeckerAlthough the season has not yet reached the halfway point, German rider Charlotte Becker is facing a search for a new squad after her Argos Shimano team announced today that they had decided to part ways.

The thirty year old moved to the team over the winter, having been part of the Specialized lululemon gold-medal winning squad in last year’s inaugural world time trial championships.

In a statement, the team said that it and the rider had ‘decided to move in different directions for the rest of the year,’ and that she had been released from the contract.

General manager Iwan Spekenbrink elaborated on the reasons. “Charlotte and the team decided it would be best to part ways early because we have different styles of working,” he said. “On our team, we like to provide intensive guidance to our riders and work very closely as a team.

“Charlotte has a different, more individual approach, and we agreed that it would be good for her to find a team that’s a better fit for her style. We thank her for her contributions this year and wish her all the best.”

Becker rode solidly this year, with her best results being second and eight places on stages of the Tour Languedoc Roussillon.

She was also ninth on a stage and fifteenth overall in the Energiewacht Tour, as well as placing fifteenth in the Ronde Van Vlaanderen and sixteenth in the women’s Tour of Qatar.
