Vaughters has high expectations: “Sebastian is a huge talent”

Sebastian LangeveldLooking to build its Classics team, the Garmin-Sharp squad has inked a deal with the Dutch professional rider Sebastian Langeveld, who won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad two years ago [pictured] and has ridden consistently since.

Team CEO Jonathan Vaughters regards the rider as an important addition to the team, and one that he believes will boost the squad’s chances of success during his two year contract. “Sebastian is a huge talent. He is a rider that excels in many disciplines and in particular, he will be a very strong addition to our Classics squad,” he said.

“He’s already proven what he can do in these races and we are excited to have him on board starting in 2014.”

In addition to his Omloop Het Nieuwsblad result, the 28 year old Dutchman was also fifth in the 2011 Tour of Flanders. This season saw him net third in the national road race championships, fifth in E3 Harelbeke, seventh in Paris-Roubaix and tenth in Flanders.

He has competed with Orica GreenEdge for the past two seasons and now moves to the American WorldTour team. “I chose Garmin-Sharp because I know I will find a great Classics team with depth, experience and talent,” he said, speaking about the decision.

“I believe in 2014 we can be successful and play an important role in the Northern Classics just as the team did this year in the Ardennes. I am also hoping to be part of the Grand Tour teams and support the GC leaders as much as possible in achieving their goals.”

He said that watching the team’s aggressive performance in this year’s Tour was something he appreciated and that he is looking forward to the chance of being part of a similar display next year.

“I am happy to be joining a team with a great history and a specific character. I will work hard for the first goals of 2014.”
