Footon-Servetto unable to hire riders

Footon-Servetto is unable to put together the roster it wants because of financial constraints. Negotiations with four riders had to be canceled due to the lack of funds.

The four riders are David Herrero (Xacobeo), Dionisio Galparsoro, Mikel Gaztañaga (Contentpolis) and Josu Agirre (Euskaltel), according to wielerupdate.nl. They would have provided a big jump in quality for the Spanish team.

Despite having a lucrative sponsorship with AMPO, which came over from Pro Continental team Contentpolis, manager Mauro Gianetti's budget is too small to hire the quartet. Despite this, two riders - Aitor Perez (Contentpolis) and Johnnie Walker (Trek-Marco Polo) - were able to receive a contract for 2010.

Footon-Servetto lost several key riders this winter, with Juan José Cobo going to Caisse d'Epargne, Fredrik Kessiakoff (Garmin), Davide Viganò (Team Sky) and David De La Fuente (Astana). Only four racers from last season are still with the team.
