Five days after RadioShack's Haimar Zubeldia broke the radius in his arm, his prognosis is taking a distinct turn for the better. After an initial trip to the hospital in Voiron, France yielded little in the way of instant remedy, and in fact, prescribed six weeks of rest, Zubeldia returned home to Spain and found a better solution. On Tuesday, Zubeldia underwent an operation where three screws were used to secure his radius and thus allow the former top five finisher at the Tour de France to resume training and make way for a possible start in Rotterdam on July 3rd.
The team admitted after his crash on Monday that his chances of starting the Tour were "severely compromised," but this new development could and should change things significantly. He now has three weeks to recover and hopefully grow his form ahead of the Grand Depart.
Good thing the Tour de France won't be racing over the the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix in the first week.
