After an impressive 14 medals in Beijing, it's no surprise that Britain's Olympic committee has decided to take a closer look at the funding appropriations for cycling. With an original target of 6 medals, Britain's Olympic cycling team more than doubled their medal count when compared to what was already a lofty goal.
BBC has released figures showing that cycling had the best returns with respect to funding, amounting to £1.58 million cost in funding for each medal gained.
Nobody could ignore success of their cycling program, and with the games heading to London in 2012, the locals want to ensure their continued domination. As a result, the cycling budget has been increased £4.82 million (21%) to £26.92 million.
