Tour de France veteran on strong form after US events

George HincapieGeorge Hincapie (BMC Racing Team) is relishing the opportunity to line up in the Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec on Friday and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal on Sunday. In last year’s events, the veteran cyclist only mustered up a 48th place finish in Montreal and did not finish the Quebec leg.

This year, Hincapie feels his preparation has been much better, highlighted by his victory on stage two of the USA Pro Cycling challenge two weeks ago.

"I came out of the Utah and Colorado block of races in really good shape," said Hincapie speaking of his August racing schedule.

"Hopefully, I can take advantage of that this weekend. Last year, I was coming off an injury, so I was only 70 percent. But I thought if I was good they would suit my capabilities. I think Montreal is harder. There's more overall climbing. But they're both tough."

All eighteen World Tour teams are confirmed for the events with competition said to be stiff. Even though Tour de France runner up Andy Schleck (Leopard-Trek) has withdrawn from the races, Philippe Gilbert (Omega Pharma-Lotto) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky Pro cycling) are expected to take part.

BMC Racing Team are sending a competitive team to support Hincapie. The team's Assistant Director Michael Sayers is looking to Brent Bookwalter and Jeff Louder to play a major part in the races. Both riders have recently been named as part of the U.S. National team for the world championships later this month.

"Those guys are riding well, as is Amaël Moinard," Sayers said. "It's the same approach as last year. We have to try and get someone in the breakaway and at the end we have a few cards to play."

Former world champion Alessandro Ballan, who is still without a win this season and who finished both events in the top ten last year will also form part of the team. The events take place on September the 9th (Quebec) and 11th (Montreal).

BMC Racing Team GP de Quebec/Montreal Roster (Sept. 9, 11):

Alessandro Ballan (ITA), Brent Bookwalter (USA), Yannick Eijssen (BEL), George Hincapie (USA), Jeff Louder (USA), Amaël Moinard (FRA), Tim Roe (AUS), Danilo Wyss (SUI).
