With electronics everywhere on bikes today and huge interest in brakes, how long before someone adds a couple LEDs on the back to indicate applied brakes, just like a car. Thoughts about helping avoid crashes in the peleton and/or your local group ride. Might it be useful for cars coming up behind a commuter !

Turning lights would be (more) useful in my experience, city commuting.

i had a set of blinkers on my bike as a kid.
brake lights in the peleton maybe. commuting or group rides would be a better use. the 'stop' hand signal is worthless if you're braking hard where you need both brakes. as an aside, remember when antilock brakes for cars first came out? a lot of those cars ended up getting rearended because the car behind would lock up and slide into them. i don't know why that comes to mind.

wouldn't surprise me if there is already a kickstarter for this. There's no end to the number of bike gadgets on there.

I remember the Japanese bikes from back in the 80's that came through the shop I worked for. Actual bikes made for the Japanese market. Bicycle version of a dresser Harley. Festooned with lights, chrome stuff, racks, horn, fenders, chrome, turn signals, chrome, kickstand, chrome. I think some of those had brake lights. Pretty simple to do really. A friend of mine made one for his mountain bike years ago. The switch was a small metal plate that came into contact with the U brake arm when the brake was pulled completed a circuit. Lasted one ride IIRC as anyone following was annoyed by the damn light coming on and off.
