Just 'cuz I know how much you guys love these lids.
New Giro Synthe...look for it next Saturday. As predicted, the next generation of aero road lids are shaping up to be a lot less fugly.

Definitely going to look WAY better than the Air Attack but that's not saying much. That design set us back to 1990!!
I get it...the aero road helmets are faster but not enough to justify looking that awful!

I need to see some more images of this lid before I can pass full judgement.....but I think it looks pretty good so far. Wanna see a profile shot.
In related news, Smith introduced a new road lid today....supposedly close to the Evade in drag numbers but with much better ventilation. Nice touch re: holding their glasses. Not certain about the rest of the lid, though.

Full article about the Synthe.....this is a good looking helmet, kids. I'd argue it actually looks better than the Aeon.

Everyone says that taste is subjective but how could you possibly still like the POC after seeing this new Synthe or Aeon? Giro has once again knocked it out of the park! While I still like the Aeon a lot, I must say this Synthe is quite nice. I especially like how low-profile it is. Some of the recent helmets have appeared to be extremely thick and bulbous. The Synthe is tasteful and will probably be on my new-equipment list next season. Bet it's going to retail for $250-275.
Seriously, this Synthe makes even the brand-new Smith (as seen above) look extremely homely. It's like comparing an Aston Martin Rapide with a Chevy Malibu Maxx.

What I found interesting was Giro's statments re: fewer, but larger vents. Bell (which now owns Giro) said the same thing back in 92/3 when they introduced the Bell Razor helmet.....but not as it applied to drag, but just better ventialtion. Fewer, but bigger, vents provided better ventilation. (Blue helmet in pic below)
My Bell rep at the time hooked me up with one of the Razors and I have to say, it had very good ventilation. Better than the Giro Ventoux.
So what was old is new again....but with an aero spin.

Thank God , I thought those ugly lids were going to start showing up on female riders soon and ruin cycling for me forever.

I had one of Smith prototype in my hands the other day, it looks better in person for sure, but my Catlike is just too sweet. I do have one of the new Smith Forefront MTB helmets, the Aerocore honeycomb like construction is pretty cool, but I'm not sure if it ventilates all that great, and they do come in a ton of ugly colors, I of course had to get the Dr. Bob red, white and blue version to match the Ritchey, ha ha ha
