I have a Shimano 105-9 bike  that I will overhaul, and am thinking about replacing the shifters, mainly for cosmetic reasons, as the right shifter cap went missing without notice last time out.

105 and Ultegra replacements on EB are a mostly overpriced crapshoot, and I was wondering if any Forumites have used Microshift? I think they supply to Nashbar and others, and I think they are out of Taiwan.

About $129 new compares favorably to about $90 used for 105 / Ultegra on EB. I do NOT want to 'upgrade' to 10s.  The Microshift hoods look more comfortable than the 105-Ultegra or Chorus 10 that I already have, too.

I have also heard of using Campy 10s shifters with Shimano 9s.  Anyone done this? Do all levels of Campy 10s shifters work with Shimano 9s?

I had not heard of them before. A quick google search came up with this page. Sounds like they are probably fine. Now what we should all do is write a letter to Leonard Zinn just because he is so serious it would be fun to hear him weigh in.

I think Bobswire used Microshift in one of his bike builds, but Bob is not around anymore to ask....

Oh I'm around just don't post as much. Microshift works as well as any of them, I'm not crazy about the looks but like the geo on the shifting mechanism. I primarily use Campy shifters now to run my shimano wheels and cassettes. 10 speed campy running 8 or 9 speed shimano cassette work fine. You can score Veloce shifters for $120 delivered. Below is my latest build,a Soma Stanyan using veloce shifters and shimano 9 speed drive.

Ha! I didn't want to miss the first game of the World Series so I brought the work stand in while watching the game. Bike is finished, tonight I'll sit on the couch to watch the game.

We really need Keith to fill us in but I gather it went like this: VeloNation was/is a website basically run by one person, a friend of Keith. Keeping advertisers on board to keep the whole website with news and all was proving a hassle and he probably would have given the whole website up except that we moved in. That didn't change the financial picture much, so the website owner went inactive on the costing part of the site, but kept the forum both as a favor to Keith and because it is now being used more than it ever was before.

Bob,I will not swear under oath that any of this is true, but that is what I have gathered. And my thanks to this website owner who has kept this running.

Good to hear from you again!

Yeah, I think summarizes it pretty well. Basically we are still here as a favor. Were it not for us, I thik the guy would have shut down by now.

FWIW, the offer still stands to cough up a little $$ if the guy ever needs it to keep this place running.
