Univega Gran Rally. Double butted chromo, lots of 600EX. A friend saw it a garage sale for $25, and as he's texting me, and I'm telling him I don't need it, it drops to $20. WTH, maybe I'll make a gravel bike.

Those were good riding bikes back in the day. If it's not rusted.

I'm in Albuquerque. No rust. 😀 Also, somebody cared about this bike. Adjusted and lubed.

One thing about NM, old cars and old bikes in pristine condition.....That's a good bike.

Yeah, growing up in and around NYC, it's nice to not have to worry about rust for the last 15 years. Turns out this bike really was meant to be a (entry level) racer. There is NO vertical clearance for anything but the skinniest tires. No gravel bike potential, and I certainly don't need a road bike. I learned of Esperanza down here. Kinda cool. A city run community bike shop that takes donations.

I had a Univega Competizione frame I built up for a while. Nice ride! 25s fit, barely. I fendered it, but that was an effort! The ride however got incorporated into my ti bike. The front end was a close copy but for clearances and slightly longer top tube.
So while that bike was not practical, I do have fond memories of it.
"Esperanza" here in Portland has a very different association. Esperanza Spaulding, the incredibly gifted jazz/pop singer/bass player who has hit the big time in your old city. My claim to fame? I got to sit in with her before she made it big. In fact, before she was out of high school. And she was already very good.

Esperanza Community Bike Shop
Seems like a cool idea.
