Jens is giving it a go....given that he can use aero bars, I would expect he can set the new mark.

Better than Boardmans 56.375 mark? No way.

I don't even know what the UCI hour record allows for bikes now or what they recognize AS the record.

Boardman's mark is not the record.....whatshisnames 49.XX km is still the official "record". So yeah, I think Voigt has a decent shot at that. No chance he touches Boardman's mark, though.

UCI announced back in May (?) that modern equipment was now allowed for hour record attempts, but the existing marks would stand as the record until broken.

If Ondřej Sosenka's bike is this one and Jensie is permitted aero bars then I'll give him a better than 50% shot at bettering 49.700km

Somebody fix my link so we can see the photos. I'm an old grouchy man and shouldn't have to put up with learning new code every time we switch forum software.

And tell those kids to get off my lawn

The UCI failed to recognize that they had a pretty good thing going there when guys like Boardman and Indurain were going to great lengths to optimize equipment and training. Yeah it went off in some funky directions (i.e. Obree) and I'm not sure why they killed it unless they were worried that it was headed toward recumbents and bikes with fairings.

They need someone to be the sacrificial lamb, to move the bar a little and spark some interest. But most guys get bored after riding for about 15mins and realize how hard it actually is. Voight could be that guy, but the pattern is that unless the rider has done a test in private before announcing they will give an official try, it usually evaporates. The fact that he hasn't put his deadline months in the future is a good sign that he will actually try. IIRC he raced 6-day races frequently when he was younger.

What are the rules on tube profile-- 3:1? Round?

Thanks for the photo, CK

Pretty sure it 3:1.....IOW, standard UCI frame requirements (per track regulations) apply.

Dale......{img}image url{/img} is the syntax you need. Replace the {} with [] to make it work.

How many times will he say to himself "Shut up, Legs!" in that 1 hour?

"Somebody fix my link so we can see the photos. I'm an old grouchy man and shouldn't have to put up with learning new code every time we switch forum software. " ha ha ha ha, thank you Dale!! That cracked me up!! I have somehow become the grouchy old man, or now, "Uncle Kenny" in the bike shop, funny how quickly that happens......... :-)
So Really, does he have a chance? He's a fairly big German dude, could he maintain that kind of power for an hour?

Since the UCi changed the rules on this no one cares about the hour record. For purity's sake, they effectively killed all interest.

I'm not a fan of Jens, but I'm glad he's giving it a go in hopes that others will follow. I agree with Chinook and jookey, that the UCI killed a good side show.
