Carnage on the stage today....they should have neutralized the race in those conditions. WAY too many crashes.

Some proper polemica but decisions were correct. Uncharacteristic amateur hour at SDWorx

Request for 20k ‘ view regarding women’s sports economic status
Tennis has been on equal footing with the the men for decades, at least in the wealthy west. Yes sex appeal is part of that equation. What does soccer need to gain parity beyond the US political choice to give the USWNT salary equality with the men? One thing the womens’ soccer game has going for it is basically a larger goal, which can mean more goals. (Futbol purists who love nil nil may chime in)

That "in effect' larger goal is due to smaller goaltemders, no?  20+ years ago I was glued to the tube watching the US women playing the Chinese.  The Lillie Hamm show.  But my focus was on the goaltender, Brianna Scurry.  (Me being an ice hockey goalie way back when.)  Scurry got beat once but the other Lillie headed it out.  A middie doing exactly what she was supposed to do; cover that far corner.  Like the hockey defense men I loved.

That kick-off at the end (I don't know what you call it - to settle tie games).  I understand the goaltender cannot anticipate and move before the ball was kicked but Brianna played that right on the edge.  She did what I did a few times and got it right every time.  "Know" which way the ball's going to be kicked and be moving the instant the ball is kicked.  The Chinese goalie was very good, but she waited to see where it was going.  Got beat once.  Takes guts to anticipate because if you are wrong you look really bad.  The Chinese goaltender almost made the stop.

The reign of van Vleuten as Queen of Mountains is finally over. Good battle.

I wish the TT had been the day before the Tourmalet....that would have made the overall race much more exciting. Imagine if Kopecky had the ride she did and had extended her overall lead before the summit finish....lots of intra-team intrigue to go with the overall battle.

Then have a sprint stage for the finale.

But a really good race overall....

CK, the usual scenario would be all the GCs watching each other carefully on Tourmulet (sp) and no one gambling until say a km to go. 30 second time differences. Next day's TT? Big. Vollering blowing the world apart wasn't in the script.

Vollering achieving what she did has been a year in the making to be exact. She took van Vleuten's training script and made it her own with massive input and motivation from van Breggen as DS.

I don't think the TT and mountain stage being in reverse order would have made a difference. What did make a difference is Kopecky wanting to initially put it in park on the Tourmalet but her DS convincing her otherwise.

The end result would not have been different but the distribution of drama would have.  I suspect fresher legs would mean Vollering would not have had a huge lead after the TT and the suspense level going into the final challenge higher.

Nah, Kopecky is not a mountain goat. Running it in reverse would still mean SDW only had one viable card to play against van Vleuten. The SDW deck was solidly shuffled before the Tour even started on that front.

agreed....no one was gonna beat Demi, but there would have been more suspense across 2 stages that were both deemed vital to the GC. They way they ran it, there was really only one GC day (at least as it pertains to the top step).
