Before being an old guy who rides sometimes, I was racer, but before that I was a bikepacker tourist. I went on an AYH trip in the early '80's in New Brunswick. Camped on the Bay of Fundy, and saw whales. Totally cool.

Some how, some way, this site is still alive, and my login, with an unused email still works.

Well, now a happy 2023. I've ridden my road bike once in Nova Scotia since I got here, two years ago. I've ridden my "around town" bike a couple of dozen times. However, I went speed skating for the first time ever. Hey, when in Rome.

Got some "touring" short track fixed blade "cheaper" skates, and wen to "The Oval": our free, public, outdoor refrigerated regulation long track.

It was open holiday skate, and my first time on speed skates, and first time on skates in 20 years. I just learned like any other kid.

So I rode the line between the good skaters, and the kids wiping out. So I could attempt to glide with a little speed, and not get in the real skaters' way. I looked UGLY, but only fell once.

It's actually disturbingly warm here right now. No frozen lakes anywhere. That's what I was really looking forward to.

If you want frozen lakes you should have moved to Saskatchewan or Manitoba Lol. Maybe northern Ontario or Quebec. Nova Scotia seems too Atlantic for it to be properly cold. Cold summers, yes, per above.
