It's definitely a big news topic and highly relevant with upcoming games; I hadn't even heard of the other nominees. But Oscars are are rigged as sports. How OJ beat 13th last year I don't know. Sure OJ is interesting historical context but 13th touched on topics everyone should be talking about but no one does. Too hot to handle? Was it even a runner up?

Classic Russian joke a few years back when Putin was ostensibly #2 and Medvedev was President and therefore ostensibly #1: Putin and M are at a restaurant, ordering dinner. The waiter asks Putin: What will you have? Putin: The steak. Waiter: And for the vegetable? Putin: He'll have the steak, too.

The Daily podcast from the NYT had an episode yesterday that dealt with the scandal. Pretty good and worth a listen. (It is also worth a listen almost everyday...one of my favorite podcasts)

I'm a little late to the party. I watched it yesterday. I'm not sure if this makes me naive, or jaded, but I believed it, and took it at face value. I thought it was very interesting and well made. The real life human drama made me uneasy, as I felt empathy for some of the people involved. Nick Edit: Sympathy may be more accurate a word than empathy.
