World champion turns the tables on Daphny van den Brand as the Dutch dominate in their home race

marianne vosMarianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) turned the tables on compatriot Daphny van den Brand (AA Drink-Leontien.nl) to take victory in the Dutch round of the Superprestige series in Gieten. Having been beaten into second place by the European champion in the Koksijde World Cup the previous day – which was Vos’ first ‘cross race of the season – World champion managed to distance van den Brand to take her first victory of the season by 35 seconds.

Having finished sixth in Koksijde, British champion Helen Wyman (Kona) improved to take the final spot on the podium; Sanne van Paassen missed out on the chance to fight for the podium after a late crash, but she managed to win a four-way sprint for fourth ahead of Belgian champion Sanne Cant (Boxx).

“The others have already been racing cyclocross for two months, so you have to ask yourself where you will stand,” Vos said afterwards, according to De Telegraaf. “The hardest thing is to get used to the technique and riding really, in the red for forty minutes, but that did me good.

“In Koksijde I could only last for 25 minutes, but I managed to recover,” the World champion added. “In Gieten the course suited me really well, with the cobbled sections, but in the autumn-like conditions it was still difficult to win.”
