Andreas Klöden (Astana) was thought to have broken his wrist yesterday in a crash during stage two of the Eneco Tour.

After further examination in Switzerland it was revealed that the 34-year-old's injury is not as severe as initially thought. The wrist is heavily bruised rather than broken, meaning he can return to training after resting for a week.

This means that Klöden, who worked hard for teammates Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France, would still be able to contest the Vuelta at the end of the month.

Even though Klöden would recover in time for the race, team spokesman Philippe Maertens told German news agency dpa that he will not take part in the Spanish Grand Tour.
