Have there been any Americans with a top 3 finish in each of the major tours (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta d'Espana)?

Levi has a 3rd in both the Vuelta and Tour.  I'm kind of bummed he doesn't seem to want to race the Giro for a placing (or a win) in 2010.  He's proven he can win the Tour of California doing it 3 consecutive times....

Lance finished 4th at the Vuelta and 8 times on the podium at the Tour.   Last year was his 1st ever Giro.  And he has also a world championship win and an olympic medal.

Bobby Julich got a 9th at the Vuelta and a 3rd at the Tour. and an olympic medal

Greg LeMond - 5 podiums at the Tour, a 3rd at the Giro, 2 world championships, but appears not to have raced the Vuelta

Andy Hampsten got two podiums at the Giro including a win, and 4th in the Tour.

Floyd held a podium at the Tour.....

Tyler got a 2nd at the Giro and olympic medal, but no Tour or Vuelta placings.

Davis Phinney more a sprinter and not a General Classification rider.

Of course there are very few that have finished top 3 in all 3 races and fewer still that have won all 3 races, Contador being the latest of (5?) them.

Three week Tours don't seem to suit Levi - he always seems to have a bad day that puts a win just out of reach.

I'm not sure about that Leo. He would have won the 2008 Vuelta if he wasn't superdomestiquing it for Contador. He was 46 seconds back of Contador in the final GC and gave up a minute five helping him on Angliru. Without that obligation, it's likely he would have won the race.

He certainly has the potential to do something, but every time he's been the "leader" he's not been able to pull it off. Maybe the answer is the pressure...sort of like Danielson?
