Going to be in Portland for Friday to Sunday visit. Meeting my wife in Salem, and we'll head up to Portland. This isn't going to be a cycling weekend so looking for recommendations for what area to stay, where to eat, and things to see. We've planned a trip to the Columbia River gorge so far, so suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Stop and hike the falls along the gorge. See Powell's book store. the Portland gardens are nice along with the hipster street with all of the walk-up resturants coffee houses al. A native will tell you the name. I don't remember from visiting my sister there a few years ago. It's the same street with guys on a corner house who ride tall bikes. Vague but it will get you started. River City bikes is also a good visit.

Powell's bookstore.

I second the Columbia River Gorge. Just drove through there this weekend and it is a beauty. And green right now.

it says something about a city when the book store is a major draw. if you're a beer drinker, just wander around. there's a brewery every other block. i think they have a lift that takes you up a mountain don't they?
